Virginia Paving is seeking a sharp, detail-oriented Asphalt & Paving Estimator to join our high-performing team in Chantilly, VA. As one of the most established paving contractors in the Mid-Atlantic, we handle complex public and private sector projects that shape infrastructure across the region.
This is a high-visibility role where your ability to develop competitive, accurate estimates for heavy civil and paving projects will directly impact business outcomes and client success.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze and interpret plans, RFPs, specifications, and proposals to produce clear and competitive bid packages.
- Lead the full bid process, including scoping subcontractors and vendors, pricing labor/equipment/materials, and conducting risk assessments.
- Prepare final contract estimates and reports for internal executive review.
- Collaborate with project managers and field leaders to ensure cost structures are realistic and thorough.
- Identify value-engineering options and bring innovation to estimating practices.
- Ensure cost estimates align with local market rates, DOT standards, and industry benchmarks.
- Support business development by preparing winning estimates for DOT projects, highway rehab, paving, and civil sitework ranging from $1M–$25M.
You Might Be a Fit If You…
- Have 5+ years of experience as an Estimator, specifically on heavy highway and paving projects.
- Bring expertise in DOT bids, asphalt pricing, earthwork, bridges, highways, and airport infrastructure.
- Have a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or similar — or equivalent field experience.
- Are highly organized, detail-driven, and thrive in deadline-heavy environments.
- Have experience using HCSS (preferred), Excel, and other estimating platforms.
- Communicate clearly and work well with both field staff and senior leadership.
