looking for an experienced HR Manager to own and elevate all facets of HR.
This role is ideal for someone with hands-on HR experience in construction—ideally heavy civil—who understands project-based work, field crews, tight schedules, and the realities of the jobsite. You’ll be both strategic and very “in the weeds,” building scalable HR processes while staying approachable to employees at all levels.
What You’ll Do
- Own the full HR lifecycle: recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, benefits, and compliance.
- Recruit and onboard office and field roles (superintendents, foremen, operators, laborers, project staff, etc.).
- Maintain HR policies, handbook, and compliance with federal/state/local employment laws.
- Handle employee relations issues, investigations, corrective actions, and terminations.
- Oversee wage/hour compliance, classifications, and coordination with payroll.
- Administer benefits, leaves of absence (FMLA/ADA), and open enrollment.
- Maintain HRIS/HR tracking and provide reporting (headcount, turnover, open roles, etc.).
- Support culture, engagement, and communication initiatives between office and field.
- Coach managers on HR best practices and support training on key HR topics.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years progressive HR Generalist/HR Manager experience, preferably in construction/trades or a field-based workforce.
- Strong working knowledge of employment laws and core HR processes.
- Experience supporting both hourly and salaried employees, including field/project teams.
- Demonstrated experience in employee relations, investigations, and performance management.
- Proficiency with HRIS/HR systems and Microsoft Office; comfortable with data and reporting.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to relate to everyone from laborers to executives.
- High level of discretion, integrity, and sound judgment.
Preferred:
- HR experience in heavy civil construction, general contracting, or infrastructure.
- Familiarity with multi-jobsite or multi-state operations.
- Experience recruiting skilled trades and construction professionals.
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, etc.) is a plus.
