An established asphalt paving and concrete contractor in the Chicagoland area is seeking a strong Project Manager to join its team and help lead project execution during an active construction season. This role is ideal for a candidate who understands paving and concrete operations, can manage multiple jobs at once, and is comfortable working closely with field crews, clients, vendors, and leadership.
The ideal candidate has experience in asphalt paving, concrete, pavement maintenance, or related site/civil construction and can step into a fast-moving environment with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage asphalt paving, concrete, and related construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
- Coordinate daily communication between field crews, subcontractors, vendors, and internal leadership
- Develop and maintain project schedules, production plans, and workflow priorities
- Monitor project budgets, change orders, costs, and job progress
- Work closely with field teams to support efficient execution and resolve jobsite issues
- Track material needs, subcontractor performance, and equipment coordination
- Maintain communication with clients regarding project schedule, progress, and expectations
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget
- Support estimating, takeoffs, bid reviews, and project turnover as needed
- Prepare and manage project documentation, reporting, and updates
- Assist with billing, forecasting, and closeout activities
- Build strong internal and external relationships to support repeat business and successful delivery
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in project management within asphalt paving, concrete, pavement maintenance, site work, or related construction
- Strong understanding of field operations, scheduling, and project execution
- Ability to manage multiple jobs and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with budgets, job costs, change orders, and subcontractor/vendor coordination
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with crews, foremen, superintendents, clients, and leadership
- Experience in Chicagoland construction market preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, but not required
Preferred Background
- Asphalt paving
- Concrete flatwork or related concrete construction
- Parking lots, municipal paving, roadway, or commercial site work
- Experience with estimating or preconstruction is a plus
- Candidates coming from a Project Engineer, Assistant PM, Senior PM, or Superintendent track may be considered depending on level of experience
