A growing civil engineering firm is hiring a Land Development Civil Engineer to support residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects from concept through permitting and construction. This role focuses on site design, grading, drainage, utility coordination, and entitlement/permitting support—working closely with project managers, survey, and clients to deliver buildable plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and support site civil design packages: grading, drainage, stormwater, roadway geometry, and utility layout
- Develop plans and calculations for:
- Stormwater management (detention/retention, water quality, conveyance)
- Sanitary sewer, water, and dry utilities coordination
- Erosion and sediment control (SWPPP/ESC)
- Earthwork quantities and cut/fill balancing
- Prepare plan sets and exhibits for entitlements and permitting (municipal/county/state)
- Coordinate with survey, geotechnical, environmental, traffic, and utility providers
- Support agency responses: comments, revisions, and resubmittals
- Assist with construction support: RFIs, submittal review, and field coordination as needed
- Maintain organized project files and communicate progress, constraints, and deadlines
Required Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
- 3+ years of land development/site civil experience (consulting preferred)
- Proficiency with design tools (typical: Civil 3D, AutoCAD, HydroCAD/ICP/StormCAD, Bluebeam, Excel)
- Solid understanding of grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater fundamentals
- Strong communication skills and comfort working across multiple projects
- Ability to meet deadlines and work in a collaborative team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT required; PE strongly preferred (or on track to obtain)
- Experience with local permitting processes and agency standards
- Experience with residential subdivisions, commercial sites, or mixed-use developments
- Familiarity with FEMA mapping, floodplain considerations, and stormwater regs
- Client-facing experience and/or mentoring junior designers
