Position Summary:
Seeking a Professional Surveyor & Mapper (PSM/PLS) to join our growing survey team. The ideal candidate will be a licensed surveyor in Florida (or able to obtain licensure within 12 months), with 10+ years of experience in managing complex survey projects across a variety of markets. This leadership position includes project oversight, technical execution, client relationship management, and business development responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead and manage multiple survey and mapping projects from inception through delivery.
- Develop project proposals, cost estimates, work plans, and manage schedules and budgets.
- Ensure adherence to scope, quality, timelines, and client expectations.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor a team of survey technicians and field crews.
- Assign and prioritize tasks while promoting continuous learning and professional growth.
- Coordinate internally across departments and externally with subcontractors.
Technical Execution
- Conduct and oversee surveys including ALTA, topographic, boundary, construction layout, and right-of-way.
- Prepare and review plats, legal descriptions, right-of-way maps, and stakeout calculations.
- Ensure accurate data collection using advanced surveying equipment (total stations, GPS, data collectors).
- Utilize and guide staff on AutoCAD and Civil 3D to prepare deliverables.
Business Development
- Identify new project opportunities and contribute to strategic BD planning.
- Lead the full business development lifecycle including proposal writing, market analysis, capture strategies, and client presentations.
- Maintain and expand existing client relationships while actively pursuing new opportunities.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and completeness on all survey deliverables.
- Implement QA/QC protocols and review work for compliance with FDOT and industry standards.
- Conduct internal audits and troubleshoot discrepancies in survey data.
Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Surveyor & Mapper in Florida (or able to obtain within 12 months).
- 10+ years of experience managing diverse survey projects; FDOT experience strongly preferred.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and survey-specific software.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting construction documents, ROW maps, and legal descriptions.
- Strong leadership, time management, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to grow business, manage client accounts, and win new work.
- Familiarity with engineering design and construction practices.
- Ability to coach and mentor a team in a collaborative, high-paced environment.
Preferred Experience
- Preparation of subdivision and condominium plats.
- Design survey experience for roadways and pipelines.
- Business development background within A/E/C firms or similar markets.
