Customs Clearance Agent

Our client is a well-established international freight forwarding company currently expanding its customs and logistics operations across the UK and Europe. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a detail-oriented Customs Clearance Agent to join their customs team based in Pontypool.


This role will play a key part in ensuring import and export shipments are processed efficiently and in full compliance with HMRC regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing customs declarations, supporting customers with clearance queries and working closely with internal teams and external authorities to keep freight moving smoothly.

Role Responsibilities

  • Preparing and submitting import and export customs declarations
  • Ensuring all declarations comply with HMRC regulations, including tariff classification, valuation and origin requirements
  • Supporting customers with queries relating to duties, VAT and customs clearance processes
  • Liaising with HMRC, ports, freight teams and internal departments to resolve clearance issues
  • Monitoring shipments and ensuring customs processes are completed within required timeframes
  • Maintaining accurate records of customs documentation and declarations
  • Ensuring compliance with all customs regulations and company procedures
  • Supporting the wider freight and logistics teams to ensure smooth international shipment processing


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience within customs clearance, freight forwarding or customs compliance
  • Experience preparing import or export customs declarations
  • Good understanding of HMRC customs procedures and documentation requirements
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced logistics environment
  • Strong communication skills when dealing with customers, authorities and internal teams
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously
