Lead Project Bookkeeper

Location: New York City – near Union Square

Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000

Our client is a boutique high-end residential construction company headquartered near Union Square in New York City. The firm has been in business for several decades and specializes in high-end single-family residential projects ranging from approximately $3M to $45M in scope.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Lead Project Bookkeeper to join their team. The current lead bookkeeper will be retiring after more than 30 years, and the company is looking to bring someone on board as soon as possible to allow for a smooth transition.

This position will work closely with the project management team to handle billing, reconcile costs, and coordinate with outside accountants on both business and project-related financial matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Weekly tax reconciliation
• Weekly payroll processing
• Monthly bank reconciliation
• Entering bills and subcontracts
• Credit card reconciliation
• Managing intercompany loans
• Service and post-service billing
• Preparing cost reports for project billing
• Transferring costs to AIA billing
• Posting payments and tracking receivables
• AIA cost-plus and stipulated sum billing
• Tax WIP tracking

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of construction accounting experience
• Proficiency with Sage accounting software
• Strong knowledge of AIA billing
• Understanding of New York State tax code
• Advanced Excel skills
• Ability to work full-time in person in the NYC office near Union Square
