Business Development Sales Director

Technical Sales Role - Design and Manufacturing

This is a Hunter and Relationship driven role.


Responsibilities and Key Deliverables/Results:

  • Develop Sales Strategy: Create and execute comprehensive growth strategies and plans to achieve new business sales goals, aligned with long-term strategic growth targets.
  • Team Building & Management: Hire, onboard, and manage a team of high performing manufacturer representatives, ensuring continuous training, development, and performance against KPIs.
  • Business Development Sales Process Oversight: Lead weekly pre-call planning and post-call review sessions with the teams to refine sales tactics and improve conversion rates.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and technical teams to translate customer needs into innovative, high-value solutions.
  • Up to 50% travel.


Must Have Experience / Education Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree and an undergraduate degree in a scientific field, preferably in chemistry, chemical engineering, optical engineering, or physics.
  • 10+ years of successful senior level leadership with marketing (desirable), business development, and sales experience in the industrial/engineering sector or defense or aerospace industry.
  • Proven track record of managing Business Development, and technical sales, ideally including territory, custom technical product development and manufacturing, and management of Manufacturers’ Representatives organizations.
  • Long-Cycle Sales Experience: Proficient in managing long, complex sales cycles with a consultative selling approach to build lasting relationships with clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in building new business and/or extending services into new markets.
  • Experience with Lean, 6 Sigma, Kaizen and/or Value Stream Mapping manufacturing.


Technical Acumen:

  • Strong technical background to accurately understand customer requirements and collaborate effectively with internal technical teams.
  • Consultative Selling in Niche Markets: Expertise in selling custom-designed solutions in sectors such as military, aerospace, avionics, and medical instrumentation.
  • Trade Show and Lead Generation Support: Ability to plan, staff, and follow up on lead generation efforts at industry trade shows, ensuring maximum engagement and conversion of opportunities.
