The Controller Position
The Controller position is responsible for managing all aspects of the accounting department, including monthly reporting, accounting file maintenance, monthly financial statement preparation, and general financial analysis. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, finance functions, and project job cost activities.
Additional responsibilities include project-based financial reporting and analysis (WIP schedules, job costing, forecasting), oversight of annual financial audits, and consistent monitoring of daily cash flow and compliance-related reporting requirements.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities of the Controller
- Prior experience as a Controller (or Assistant Controller) is required
- Prior experience in the Construction Industry is highly preferred
- CPA designation is preferred, but not required
- Experience in leading and developing a team with a minimum of ten (10) direct reports preferred.
- Previous payroll department oversight preferred.

Compensation, Benefits, and Structure for the Controller Position
The position offers an attractive benefit package that includes medical insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, HMO and Health Savings plan options available), dental coverage, vision coverage, life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability plans on the first of the month following the date of hire. Paid time off and 401K plans are offered upon reaching eligibility. This position reports directly to the CFO, and requires an in-office presence at Ideal Contracting’s Detroit office.
