Title: Director of Product Marketing & Communications
Location: Remote (U.S. or Canada)
Reporting Structure: Reports to the VP of Portfolio Strategy; manages a Product Communications Manager
Company Description
Ziplines Education partners with universities to deliver industry-focused certificate courses that prep professionals for today's digital-first workforce. They help thousands of career advancers a year build the skills and credentials to move forward — 92% of learners would recommend the programs, and NPS is consistently excellent. As they scale program launches, they're looking for someone to own how each program is positioned and communicated in market.

- $150K–$180K, based on geographic tier (Tier 1/2/3)
- Equity via stock option grant, vesting over 4 years
- Medical/dental/vision (premiums start at $0/mo), 401K
- Flexible PTO + 10 paid holidays

Responsibilities
- Own positioning across all active and pipeline programs — build a real POV on why each program wins, not just a summary of what it covers
- Set target audience, core message, and expected learner profile for every new launch before campaign planning starts
- Maintain a living, data-informed view of Ziplines' ICP across the portfolio
- Monitor positioning health — flag when enrollment demographics, NPS, or performance signals suggest a program needs a refresh
- Own the Voice of Customer program: run interviews with prospective learners, active learners, rejecters, and alumni on a regular cadence
- Synthesize VoC findings into positioning inputs for Growth and Product; partner with the data team to connect qualitative and quantitative signals
- Run quarterly persona reviews and own the quarterly messaging bank review cycle
- Serve as strategic point of contact for the copywriter — brief him on positioning, edit his output, own the signal while he owns the pen
- Escalate to Product/LXD when the course itself (not just the copy) needs to change
- Partner with Growth on performance feedback loops; build trust as the decisive, credible voice on positioning
Is this you?
- 7+ years in product marketing or marketing communications, with real time in B2C/DTC
- Strong copy-editing instincts — you don't need to write everything, but you can sharpen what others write
- A systems thinker who builds frameworks before defaulting to manual execution
- Decisive and direct — you make positioning calls and drive alignment without waiting for consensus
- A clear communicator who can turn complex positioning into a brief a growth marketer or copywriter can actually run with
- Data-oriented — comfortable with NPS, demographic, and performance data
- You've genuinely changed how you work because of AI — not just conversant with it
- Startup or growth-stage experience, where you're building systems rather than inheriting them
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience owning positioning at a company scaling multiple product lines or launches simultaneously
- Experience managing or directing a copywriter or creative resource without directly managing their day-to-day
