Purpose & Scope of The Position: 

The Senior Hydrogeologist is responsible for understanding the groundwater regime at the mine, managing the mine dewatering program, assessing regional impacts, evaluating and controlling the mine water balance, and ensuring compliance with the mine's water rights. Working closely with and supporting the Engineering, Mine Operations, Geotechnical, and Environmental Departments. The Senior Hydrogeologist will also work with the exploration geologist group in evaluating potential geologic resource targets in and around the state of Nevada. The Senior Hydrogeologist interfaces with state agencies and works under minimal direction of the Chief Geologist.


Job Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the overall dewatering program and developing cost effective task plans to complete work on time and within budget.
  • Assist in the development of annual project budgets.
  • Responsible for the preparation of “Request for Quotation” documents, evaluation of responses, selection of contractors, and contract agreement implementation.
  • Provide daily work and budgetary oversight of consultants and contractors.
  • Responsible for the effective management of own time and effort in accordance with project priorities and objectives.
  • Convey results and findings by means of oral discussions and presentations.
  • Prepare interim dewatering project reports, on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Plan, formulate, and conduct hydrogeologic field investigations in accordance with project objectives and requirements that include drilling oversight, well design and installation, lithologic logging, geophysical logging, aquifer testing, data analysis and interpretation, and pumping equipment specification/selection.
  • Purchase monitoring and pumping equipment to facilitate mine dewatering activities.
  • Develop conceptual and numerical groundwater models or provide oversight thereof. 
  • Aquifer testing and pump test analysis.
  • Conduct groundwater investigations and sampling programs. 
  • Assist in the evaluation of offsite geologic targets for potential resources, including but not limited to geologic mapping, xRF analysis, land ownership identification, etc.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology or related fields (Geology, Hydrology, Hydraulic Engineering) with a strong emphasis in groundwater.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of work experience in the disciplines listed above; mining-related experience is preferred.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Hydrogeology or related fields (Geology, Hydrology, Hydraulic Engineering) with a strong emphasis in groundwater.
  • Experience: 
  • One to three years of exploration, water exploration, or drilling oversight.
  • One to three years of experience developing large-scale pumping systems.
  • Licenses: Professional Registration 

 

Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimum supervision.
  • Working knowledge of MinePlan and ArcGIS is preferable. 
  • Working knowledge of InSitu and Geokon instrumentation is preferable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Working knowledge of MODFLOW or comparable software.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with RNMC management, differing department personnel, and contractors, and be a capable project and task manager.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with technical writing experience. 
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to operate light vehicles
