The Senior Metallurgist will be a key member of our client's team as this position will be responsible for metal planning and will be working with the process team to assist with operational efficiency projects, ensure daily production KPIs are met, reporting is accurate, and lab QA/QC is acceptable.


Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties: 

  • Perform data analysis on process and metallurgical data to improve safety, increase recovery and/or decrease cost
  • Lead the execution of metal planning activities
  • Monitor operational targets within technical area and provide guidance to achieve optimal results
  • Trouble-shoot problems within the process department, communicate the solutions to the team, and assist with implementing changes
  • Support the metallurgical group in working with process operations, maintenance, electrical, and external groups to improve leach pad and plant operations
  • Assist long term development groups to ensure the future success of the site by characterizing ore types and de-risking metallurgy related assumptions such as ultimate recovery, reagent consumption, acid generation, leach pad chemistry, etc.
  • Review, recommend, and implement new or enhanced Metallurgical testing equipment or protocols with the goal of improving the Metallurgical process at Marigold
  • Provide direction and technical advice to team members to support them in their delivery on projects and in their professional development
  • Perform all other duties as required


Required Skills:

  • Able to follow the scientific method to design experiments, perform research, analyze data, and take action to resolve issues and improve processes
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Able to recognize occupational hazards and instigate safety precautions
  • Investigate root cause(s) of poor performing processes, identify contributors, and execute corrective actions
  • Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent Process related degree
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex metallurgical and processing analysis
  • Hands-on practical application of process optimization
  • Computer coding experience with VBA, Python and/or Lua is highly preferred
  • Heap leach, CIC, ADR experience preferred
  • Metal balance and accounting experience preferred
  • Metal planning, forecasting, and budgeting experience preferred
  • Overall site reconciliation involvement
