Director of Operations – Dental Practice

Location: Severn, Maryland

Job Type: Full-Time - Must be full-time on site daily (not remote)

Salary: Starting at $100,000 to $150,000 annually with performance-based growth potential

We are seeking an experienced, business-savvy Director of Operations with operational experience in the Dental Space to join a thriving, multi-specialty dental practice located in Severn, Maryland. This leadership opportunity is ideal for a hands-on operator who excels at managing people, enforcing accountability, and building operational infrastructure in a high-volume clinical environment.


About the Practice:

Combined, the practices serve a diverse patient base and closed last year at $8M in total collections with a 98% production-to-collection ratio. There is a lot of opportunity for this practice to grow further and may include additional locations in the future, The team includes 40+ clinical and administrative staff, with 50% Medicaid and 50% fee-for-service patients. Advanced technology, custom reporting tools, and high clinical standards drive the patient experience.


What You’ll Do:

Reporting directly to the owner, the Director of Operations will serve as the operational backbone of the organization, relieving the owner of day-to-day stress while enabling high performance across departments.


You will:

  • Oversee daily operations of two dental practice locations and manage 40+ staff.
  • Build leadership infrastructure, coaching and holding accountable four managers and two senior doctors.
  • Streamline hiring, onboarding, and scheduling systems to improve staff efficiency and morale.
  • Implement data-driven processes and KPIs aligned with collections, payroll, and supply costs.
  • Partner with owner to ensure high-quality patient experiences and consistent service delivery.
  • Lead by example—be visible, accessible, and solutions-focused on the ground.
  • Conduct staff reviews, team meetings, and training initiatives in collaboration with clinical leadership.
  • Evaluate vendor relationships and negotiate contracts where needed.
  • Maintain compliance with industry regulations and optimize the use of Dentrix and other operational tools.

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in dental operations and management with multi-unit operations experience.
  • Proven leadership in managing large teams and complex workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with HR, payroll, scheduling, and performance management.
  • A results-driven mindset with the ability to enforce structure without sacrificing empathy.
  • Familiarity with dental software (e.g., Dentrix) and analytical tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Passion for coaching others and creating a positive, accountable culture.

A DISC assessment and reference checks will be part of the interview process to ensure cultural and operational alignment.
