We are seeking a Project Controller to join our team!


We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Controller to lead the daily accounting operations of our construction company. This role requires a strong understanding of construction accounting, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both office and field teams. The ideal candidate is proactive, process-driven, and capable of balancing hands-on work with strategic financial oversight

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to the Financial Controller in all areas of financial management, strategic planning, and reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
  • Oversee the full-cycle accounting process, including month-end and year-end close, journal entries, and reconciliation of all bank, credit card, and loan accounts.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes to ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and construction industry standards.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, job cost tracking, WIP schedules, and variance analyses to support project- and company-level decision-making.
  • Ensure accurate contract setup and compliance, including billings, change orders, retention tracking, lien releases, certified payroll, and insurance requirements.
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and support business strategy initiatives.
  • Track job costs, and assist in preparing accurate WIP (Work-In-Progress) schedules and project-level financial reports.
  • Oversee compliance with construction-specific regulatory requirements such as state and local tax filings, prevailing wage laws, union/non-union payroll, and lien laws.
  • Participate in financial system upgrades and workflow automation projects to drive efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support insurance and risk management activities, including tracking of certificates of insurance (COIs) and subcontractor compliance documentation.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or 10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction billing practices.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Construction Edition), Microsoft Excel, and payroll platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to other office sites/jobs as needed.
