Summary:

A high-tech manufacturing company is seeking a Controls Engineer to support its state-of-the-art production facility in Trinity, Alabama. This hands-on, shift-based role plays a key part in driving uptime, automation reliability, and process improvement during critical evening operations.

You’ll join a growing team within a clean, safety-regulated, and sustainability-focused environment that values innovation, collaboration, and accountability. Working on a 2-2-3 night shift schedule, you’ll be the go-to resource for controls troubleshooting, PLC/HMI updates, and electrical diagnostics during evening hours.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage and coach a team of automation technicians responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing automated equipment and controls, driving continuous improvement and minimizing downtime.
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain automation equipment and electrical control systems.
  • Design and modify Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs (e.g., FactoryTalk View, PanelView).
  • Support new equipment installs, upgrades, and ongoing manufacturing operations.
  • Read, update, and maintain electrical schematics and panel layouts in AutoCAD.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.
  • Support data acquisition integration and analytics for performance monitoring.
  • Engage in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in minimal travel (5–10%) to support remote teams when necessary.

What You Bring

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, or Computer Engineering (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience: 1–5 years in a manufacturing or process automation environment.
  • Technical Skills:
  • PLC ladder logic and function block programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley).
  • HMI development using FactoryTalk or PanelView.
  • Networking experience with Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, or Profibus.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with AC/DC circuits, sensors, and control panels.
  • AutoCAD experience for electrical design.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Clear communicator with strong documentation practices.
  • Comfortable with safety procedures, PPE, and clean manufacturing protocols.
  • Adaptability to 12-hour rotating shifts and evening-based responsibilities.

What You Get

  • Competitive salary + night shift differential + target bonus + additional pay for extra shifts.
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • PTO, paid holidays, and safety incentive bonuses.
  • Access to advanced automation technology and global engineering collaboration.
  • Career advancement opportunities as the facility undergoes rapid expansion.

Note: This is a mission-critical role on the evening shift. You’ll be a key resource ensuring equipment uptime and controls functionality during non-daylight hours. If you’re a hands-on engineer with PLC/HMI chops, this is your opportunity to thrive in a dynamic, high-tech environment.
