Job Title: CAD Technician / CAD Engineer – Power & Energy (Biomass / Thermal)

Overview
We are seeking an experienced CAD Technician / Engineer to join our design and engineering team, supporting the development and delivery of biomass and thermal power generation projects across the UK and Europe. The successful candidate will have a strong background in 2D detailed design, with complementary experience in 3D modelling and Navisworks coordination, ideally gained within the energy, process, or heavy industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce 2D detailed design drawings, layouts, schematics, and fabrication details for mechanical, civil, and electrical systems associated with biomass and thermal power stations.
- Develop and maintain accurate CAD models and drawings in line with project and client standards.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (process, mechanical, civil, EC&I) to ensure coordinated and constructible designs.
- Support 3D model reviews using Navisworks — performing clash detection, visualisation, and design validation.
- Ensure all drawings adhere to company CAD standards, drawing conventions, and revision control.
- Assist in the preparation of as-built documentation, engineering deliverables, and design handover packages.
- Liaise with engineers, project managers, and clients to clarify design requirements and resolve drawing issues.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and value engineering sessions.
- Maintain organised drawing files and contribute to continuous improvement of CAD processes and templates.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience as a CAD Technician or CAD Engineer within the energy, process, or industrial sectors — ideally biomass, thermal power, or CHP projects.
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D with strong technical drawing and detailing ability.
- Working knowledge of 3D CAD software (such as Autodesk Plant 3D, Inventor, or SolidWorks).
- Experience using Navisworks for model coordination and clash detection.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, P&IDs, general arrangements, and fabrication details.
- Familiarity with mechanical, piping, or structural layouts within power or process plant environments.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work to deadlines.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with a proactive approach
Desirable Qualifications
- HNC / HND / Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent discipline).
- Experience working within EPC / design & build environments.
- Knowledge of BIM processes and design coordination across disciplines.
- Familiarity with plant layout design principles and construction sequencing.
