Assistant Shift Team Leader
Location: Runcorn
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday on a rotating shift pattern (including nights)
Salary: £48,014 per year, plus shift allowance, annual bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Shift Team Leader to join a leading UK organisation in the resource recovery and energy-from-waste sector. This role plays a key part in supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of one of the UK’s largest Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs), which helps divert waste from landfill and convert it into valuable energy resources.
As Assistant Shift Team Leader, you will supervise and direct the shift team on site, ensuring operational excellence while maintaining strict health, safety, and environmental standards. You will also act as the Authorised Person (AP) in compliance with the facility’s Safe System of Work.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the shift team to ensure safe and efficient plant operation.
- Plan, implement, and monitor processes to maximise efficiency, productivity, and plant availability.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Respond promptly to operational issues, incidents, or complaints and conduct thorough follow-up investigations.
- Support maintenance activities within the plant to minimise downtime.
- Maintain effective communication across teams and departments to achieve operational objectives.
- Demonstrate flexibility and undertake additional duties as required to support site performance.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience in an energy-from-waste facility, power station, or similar industrial process environment.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance within the process or power industry.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deliver team briefings and produce concise reports.
- An engineering qualification (preferably ONC/HNC or equivalent).
- A safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH (preferred).
- Experience in coordinating and supervising shift personnel and contractors (desirable but not essential).
