Safety & Compliance Manager

Location: Runcorn ERF

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday

Salary: Competitive + annual bonus scheme


Overview

H9 Talent Solutions are seeking a Safety & Compliance Manager on a leading Energy Recovery Facility (ERF). The role is to oversee the management, monitoring, and continuous improvement of safety, environmental, and compliance systems on site. This role plays a critical part in ensuring operational excellence, adherence to environmental permits, and the ongoing development of a safe and compliant workplace.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor safety systems, procedures, and safe systems of work across the facility.
  • Ensure full compliance with environmental permits and regulatory licences.
  • Interpret emissions data and develop associated working plans.
  • Lead on internal auditing, compliance reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement policies and procedures to maintain a highly compliant, quality-driven environment where safety is prioritised.
  • Manage and maintain risk assessments, SSOW, and method statements to prevent incidents and uphold best practice.
  • Work closely with the Plant Manager and wider site team to maintain high productivity while ensuring uncompromising standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Support cultural development across the site, embedding a strong safety-first mindset.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Relevant experience within a highly regulated, compliance-focused operational environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to develop and guide teams, particularly in a start-up or evolving environment.
  • Experience working with permitted/regulated activities and processes, ideally involving controlled emissions.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Understanding of the energy-from-waste or power generation sector, including key legislation.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH safety qualification (or equivalent).
  • Awareness of management standards such as OHSAS18001, ISO18001, ISO14001, and ISO50001.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulation and technical aspects of waste management.
  • Full UK driving licence.


Desirable:

  • Experience working directly in an energy-from-waste facility.
