Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Melter Operator opportunity at the Catholic University of America’s Vitreous State Laboratory in Washington, DC.
SUMMARY
Experienced operator with a desire to learn operations in high-temperature equipment, glass melting systems, air pollution control systems, and slurry mixing and pumping systems. Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the successful candidate will support the operation of glass melters, air pollution control systems, operation of waste materials slurry preparations, and Vitreous State Laboratory’s (VSL) general research needs. The position requires independent work once fully trained. Collaboration with other staff members in a variety of disciplines is expected.
QUALIFICATIONS
· High School Diploma or G.E.D required.
· Vocational training or coursework in industrial technology, chemistry, or mechanics is preferred.
· Prior experience working in manufacturing, construction, chemical plants, or other mechanical work environments. Minimum 5 years.
· Relevant work experience in glass making operations or a related field is preferred.
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, attention to detail, good penmanship, and basic computer skills.
· Ability to collaborate with engineers and follow technical drawings and schematics
· Basic understanding of mechanical systems (pumps, valves, blowers, etc.) and comfortable working around high temperature equipment.
· Strong commitment to safety, reliability and teamwork
· Ability to remain alert and responsive during long shifts or overnight work.
· Knowledge of electronic control systems preferred.
· Ability to work 10 to 12-hour shift, weekends, and nights occasionally.

Compensation
Pay is commensurate with education and experience and may range between $30.00-$50.00 per hour.
