Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Composites Manager opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.

 

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Composite Manager to lead the development, production, and quality assurance of composite materials and components for an industrial manufacturing project within the nuclear industry. This role is responsible for overseeing composite fabrication processes, ensuring compliance with nuclear industry standards, and driving innovation in lightweight, high-strength materials for rotating equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of composite manufacturing operations, including layup, curing, machining, and inspection
  • Develop and optimize composite fabrication processes for machine components with high strength-to-weight ratios
  • Ensure compliance with NQA-1, ASME, DOE, and NRC regulations in all composite-related activities
  • Collaborate with design, materials, and quality teams to select appropriate composite systems and validate performance
  • Manage production schedules, resource planning, and tooling development for composite operations
  • Oversee training and supervision of technicians and production staff
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for material or process non-conformances
  • Maintain documentation for process controls, material traceability, and regulatory audits
  • Evaluate new materials, technologies, and suppliers to enhance performance and reduce cost

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in composite manufacturing, preferably in the nuclear, automotive, aerospace, or defense industries
  • Strong knowledge of composite materials (e.g., carbon fiber) and fabrication techniques
  • Experience with autoclave curing, resin infusion, and precision layup processes
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Materials Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience supporting DOE or NRC-regulated projects
  • Familiarity with NQA-1 and nuclear quality assurance standards
  • Certification in composite fabrication or non-destructive testing (NDT)
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification

 

Other Job Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security clearance. Active clearance is a plus.
