Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Radiation Control Technician 4 opportunity in Los Alamos, NM to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

 

Citizenship: United States Citizenship is required

Work Location: Onsite

Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a rotating shift/weekend schedule. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain DOE Q and HRP Clearance

 

Summary:

As a Senior Radiation Protection Technician 4 (RCT 4), performs the full range of RCT support activities and serves as the primary point of contact for planning, coordination of resources, and ensuring resolution of conflicting demands in highly dynamic and challenging conditions that require ability as a strong tactical decision maker. Assignments may be broad or narrowly focused, but usually require contributions of substantial independent effort.

 

Duties:

  • Ensures that radiological controls are correctly applied for radiological work, including high-hazard radiological work, by serving as authorized subject matter expert for development of radiological work control packages (RWCPs).
  • Provides coordination of work area resources as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Fulfills customer radiation protection requests while ensuring established RP-1 priorities are followed.
  • Works effectively with customers and supervision to resolve problems including elevation of issues beyond the ability of the RCT 4 to resolve.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and handle unforeseen issues.
  • May include technical supervision responsibilities, but certainly includes responsibility for providing technical leadership and review.
  • Contributions of technicians at this level are normally expected to be of sufficient value to have some impact on the outcome of entire project or group accomplishments.
  • Through actions and words, demonstrates excellence in safety and compliance to RCTs co-workers and customers.

 

Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma and four to six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including an associate’s degree or graduation from a technical institution.
  • Normally requires extensive experience in supporting radiological activities and facilities and in applying operational health physics to work.
  • Work involves moderate physical demands, such as lifting and carrying radiation protection instruments and wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection.
  • Work may be outdoors and may be scheduled at time other than regular work hours.
  • Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation):
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds;
  • Reading vision; Peripheral Vision, Depth Perception;
  • Ability to speak;
  • Ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz).
  • Ability to sit, crawl, stand, walk, run, and climb; in addition to reaching overhead, horizontally, and down;
  • Free from chronic wounds or chronic rashes which disrupt the integrity of the skin that would prevent safe entry into controlled areas;
  • Ability to use stairways, fixed ladders, and ladders up to six feet.
  • Must be physically able to work in demanding environments.
