Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Industrial Hygienist opportunity in Johnson City, TN.

 

Job Description:

The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the site Industrial Hygiene (IH) program to protect the health and well-being of personnel in pre-production and production environments. This role evaluates workplace conditions, identifies potential health hazards, and establishes effective controls to minimize employee exposure to chemical, physical, biological, and radiological hazards.

 

The Industrial Hygienist will support the establishment of IH processes and procedures for the project, including development of air monitoring and exposure assessment programs, industrial hygiene sampling strategies, and workplace health protection initiatives. Working closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and ES&H personnel, the position supports regulatory compliance, operational readiness, and continuous improvement efforts that promote a strong culture of safety and health throughout the facility.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the site Industrial Hygiene (IH) program in support of project startup, pre-production, and production activities
  • Develop IH policies, procedures, work instructions, and program documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements
  • Establish and manage workplace air monitoring and exposure assessment programs for chemical, physical, biological, and radiological hazards
  • Conduct industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring activities, including air sampling, noise monitoring, and exposure assessments
  • Evaluate workplace conditions, analyze monitoring results, and recommend engineering, administrative, and personal protective controls
  • Perform industrial hygiene surveys, inspections, hazard analyses, and evaluations of work activities, processes, and equipment
  • Support hazard analysis teams, readiness reviews, and safety evaluations for new or modified facilities, systems, and processes
  • Prepare permits, conduct pre-job walkdowns, and provide field oversight for work involving potential occupational health hazards
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and maintain industrial hygiene and exposure monitoring data and prepare reports for management
  • Support respiratory protection, hearing conservation, hazard communication, ergonomics, and occupational health programs
  • Assist with incident investigations and recommend corrective and preventive actions
  • Support emergency preparedness and response activities as assigned
  • Develop and deliver industrial hygiene and occupational health training programs for site personnel
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, maintenance, and ES&H teams to integrate occupational health requirements into daily operations
  • Recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives related to worker health protection and industrial hygiene performance

 

Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Health Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of industrial hygiene or occupational health experience in an industrial, manufacturing, chemical processing, nuclear, or regulated environment
  • Experience developing and implementing industrial hygiene programs and procedures is desired.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, industrial hygiene principles, exposure assessment techniques, and occupational health best practices
  • Experience conducting industrial hygiene sampling, air monitoring, and exposure assessments
  • Experience with respiratory protection, hearing conservation, chemical exposure monitoring, and hazard communication programs preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or progress toward certification are preferred
  • Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and industrial hygiene data management systems
  • Must be able to work effectively in both office and industrial facility environments

  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance, if required
