Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical/Piping Designer opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.

 

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Mechanical/Piping Designer to support the design and development of specialized industrial process systems and facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with mechanical, process, electrical, controls, and project engineers to develop detailed design packages, 3D models, and construction drawings for process equipment, piping systems, and facility infrastructure.

 

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented designer with strong CAD experience and a background in industrial, manufacturing, process, energy, or similar engineering environments.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed 3D models and construction drawings for piping systems, process equipment, structural supports, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Prepare piping layouts, isometrics, equipment arrangements, plans, sections, and installation details.
  • Generate fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, bills of material, and drawing packages for construction and procurement.
  • Coordinate piping and equipment designs with mechanical, process, electrical, instrumentation, and controls disciplines.
  • Perform design reviews, clash detection, and model coordination activities.
  • Incorporate engineering calculations, specifications, vendor information, and design standards into drawing packages.
  • Support field walkdowns, construction activities, drawing revisions, and as-built documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, quality requirements, and company drafting practices.

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, technical degree, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical and/or piping design experience in industrial, manufacturing, process, chemical, energy, or related facilities.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, or similar CAD platforms.
  • Experience producing piping and mechanical design drawings for construction and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of piping components, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, instrumentation interfaces, and mechanical equipment layouts.
  • Familiarity with P&IDs, piping specifications, and industrial drafting standards.
  • Ability to interpret engineering calculations, equipment data sheets, and technical specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple design assignments.
