Controller

Location: LA preferred

Salary$200k-$220k + bonus



The Controller is responsible for overseeing our accounting initiatives. The role includes leading a team of accountants to provide weekly, monthly, and year-end accounting activities for each of the portfolio entities and the parent company. You will also work closely with our CFO to manage the relationship with our external accounting auditors and provide extensive reporting to our investment bankers and lenders, as well as assist with buy-side due diligence initiatives as we make acquisitions. You will also participate in the budgeting process and various other FP&A responsibilities.


The ideal candidate has a CPA and possesses a solid operational and technical accounting background, has strong experience working with Private Equity-backed companies with audited books, excellent communication skills, and the proven ability to juggle priorities and

work proactively to drive results. This person is comfortable creating and maintaining policies and procedures and would enjoy overseeing a team of accountants to ensure enterprise-level financial reporting. Lastly, and most importantly, the right candidate has a strong background in service businesses and understands how to measure and report financial data in a world where people are our products.


Responsibilities:

  • Own general accounting processes, including streamlining workflow and ensuring accuracy of deliverables
  • Lead the month-end close process for all entities, working with a team of accountants to complete reconciliations and prepare supporting schedules as needed
  • Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements
  • Oversee teams delivering weekly and monthly accounting reports
  • Document and maintain scalable standard operating procedures with strong controls
  • Develop an understanding and documentation of complex accounting processes including internal processes that may affect the financials for the various subsidiaries
  • Train team members on best practices as needed
  • Participate in the budgeting and cash-flow forecasting process across all entities
  • Perform FP&A activities to track the performance and opportunities of the various businesses
  • Work with outside auditors and QofE partners as needed


The Ideal Candidate

  • A degree in Accounting or Finance
  • At least 8 years of service in business operational accounting experience
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidated books
  • CPA and/or Big-4 experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with PE-backed companies strongly preferred
  • Ability to collaborate and manage a team
  • Comfortable in a high-growth environment
  • Strong understanding of service businesses required
  • Experience in the CPG space (whether retail or online) is a plus
  • A passion for leveraging systems and driving process improvements
  • Experience with full close-cycle accounting
  • Experience in QBO and related software tools
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel
