Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Security Gate Guard opportunity in Carlsbad, NM to support the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).
Work Location: On-site at WIPP
The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is the nation’s only permanent nuclear waste repository for defense-generated transuranic (TRU) waste generated from Department of Energy (DOE) sites across the country. Waste is permanently isolated over 2,000 feet underground in deep salt beds.
Job Summary:
We are seeking reliable and observant Security Gate Guards to monitor and control access at a designated gate entrance. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the premises by managing gate operations, maintaining a visible presence, and observing all incoming and outgoing traffic throughout their shift.
Key Responsibilities:
Gate Operations:
· Open the gate at the beginning of the shift and ensure it is securely closed at the end of the shift.
· Control access to the property by verifying credentials, logging entries, and granting or denying access as appropriate.
Monitoring & Surveillance:
· Remain stationed in the gatehouse for the duration of the shift, maintaining a vigilant watch over the gate and surrounding area.
· Monitor surveillance equipment (if available) and report any suspicious activity or security breaches immediately.
Visitor Interaction:
· Greet and assist visitors, contractors, and delivery personnel in a professional and courteous manner.
· Provide directions or information as needed while maintaining security protocols.
Reporting & Documentation:
· Maintain accurate logs of all gate activity, including vehicle entries/exits, visitor check-ins, and incidents.
· Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or unusual occurrences to the appropriate personnel.
General Duties:
· Ensure the gatehouse is kept clean, organized, and secure.
· Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety and security.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Previous experience in security or gatekeeping preferred.
· Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to remain alert and focused during long periods of inactivity.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Must be dependable and punctual.
