Summary of the Role
To ensure Accompany Capital’s efficient daily and strategic financial and administrative operations by leading and managing the accounting and human resources functions and maintaining office systems. Prepares and analyzes financial reports; supports accurate management and compliance for government and private grants. Recommends and implements process improvement and enforces internal controls to protect Accompany Capital’s assets.
Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting/ Finance (80-90%)
- Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director performs standard bookkeeping/accounting practices, including but not limited to bank reconciliations, general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- With an operating budget of $3.2M and 17 employees, the Director ensures that financial reports needed for funders, the Board, and the Executive Director are accurate and available.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly financial statements and works closely with the Consultant Accountant and Consultant CFO to review the accuracy of all financial data provided to the Finance Committee monthly.
- Supports the accurate management and compliance of government and private grants in accordance with the policies of respective funders and Accompany Capital’s Financial Management Manual. Updates and maintains the Manual in conjunction with the Consultant CFO and Executive Director.
- Develops budgets for new proposals and submission of reimbursement expense reports for federal grants. Works with Senior Manager of Development and Grants Administration and the Executive Director to prepare necessary financial data and ensure timely submission of quarterly reports to federal, state, and local funders.
- With the assistance of the Consultant Accountant, manages financial aspects of client micro and small business loans. Prepares loan disbursements to Accompany Capital clients. Works in conjunction with the Director of Portfolio Management and Compliance to reconcile and ensure accuracy of loan data monthly.
- Identifies and communicates issues regarding loan fund bank accounts and check requests, in a timely manner, to the Executive Director, Chief Lending Officer and Director of Portfolio Management and Compliance. Prepares and coordinates documentation with Executive Director for new loan funds, and drawdowns of current loan funds. Provides monthly and quarterly financial and loan fund reports to Investors, partners, and funders.

Works collaboratively with CFO Consultant, Consultant Accountant, and Executive Director for annual budget preparation and annual audit completion (including completion of annual 990, Single Audit, and Char500). (annual operating budget of $3.2.K)
- Coordinates quarterly meetings of the Finance Committee and, together with the Executive Director; prepares the agenda, reports for Committee review, and keeps minutes. Presents quarterly financial reports to the Finance Committee and at Board Meetings. Coordinates monthly meetings with CFO consultant and Consultant Accountant, Completes required follow- up from meetings.
- Takes ownership of Finance Policies and Procedures Manual and stays abreast of new accounting rules applicable to the organization. Oversees equipment leases, purchases, maintenance and upgrading, including information technology (in collaboration with the Chief Lending Officer and IT consultants). Maintains positive relationships with all vendors.
Human Resources Administration (10-20%)
- Ensures accurate and timely payroll submission with vendor. Reviews staff time sheets and tracks leave accruals and balances.
- With guidance from HR consultant and/or broker, handles group health communication, open enrollment, COBRA administration. Assists employees with benefit plans and claims as needed. Works closely with Executive Director to ensure that Accompany Capital is purchasing cost effective staff benefits.
- Communicates with employees regarding employment policies (e.g. leave of absence) as required.
- Assists Executive Director with 403(b) Plan Administration including submission of annual census and 5500 filing. Enrolls new employees in the Plan. Serves as Authorized Signer with MetLife for 403(b) Plan Administration.
- Maintains personnel records in compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and maintains required labor law posters. Assists in maintaining job descriptions, organizational chart, and employee handbook. Handles outside Standard background check and onboarding for new employees; exit clearances for employee separations.
- Prepares required forms and responds to requests for information as needed for NYS short term disability insurance, New York State Paid Family Leave, Worker’s Compensation, Unemployment Insurance, and employment verification. Seeks guidance/handles compliance issues for out -of- state employees as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. Masters preferred.

Minimum five years progressively responsible related experience in the nonprofit sector including budgeting, audits, and compliance. Knowledge of management of loan funds/ experience in a CDFI a plus. Understanding of GAAP and FASB requirements relating to non-profits.
- Knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping and human resources administrative functions including payroll and employee benefits administration; office systems and equipment management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word Excel, and PowerPoint); familiarity with Fund EZ desirable.
- Ability to handle complex tasks and manage multiple priorities. Detail oriented and proactive in solving problems. Strong sense of professionalism.
