We are currently in search of a Volunteer and Communications Coordinator for an Advocacy Organization located in San Jose, CA (Downtown). This is a Part-Time (20-25 hrs./wk.), Hybrid (2 days in office, 1 day remote), Ongoing Temporary assignment.

Is This Your Dream Job? The Volunteer and Communications Coordinator reports to the Development Director and works closely with the staff to engage community members and ensure clear, dynamic communication across all platforms. The Coordinator will contribute to a range of activities related to campaign appeals, corporate, foundation, and individual giving goals, and other assigned projects.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience
- Prior experience on a communications team is essential
- A track record of owning projects end-to-end, including, but not limited to, communication deliverables and volunteer management tracking
- Excellent multi-tasking skills and ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines at once
- Proven ability to think critically and anticipate issues before they arise, and proactively suggest big-picture solutions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with experience using platforms such as Buffer, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Adobe, Monday, Mailchimp, Squarespace, Canva, Salesforce
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrates proactive customer service and a solutions-oriented mindset
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-focused environment
- Manages multiple concurrent workstreams, prioritizing work with minimal guidance, and operating with moderate autonomy and judgement
- A team player. Excellent at building relationships within your team and across teams
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support events as needed
How You Will Spend Your Day:
Communications (Internal, Print & Multimedia)
- Keep the organization's online presence current, dynamic, and engaging across the website, social media, email, and other digital channels
- Manage content calendars for web and social posting, ensuring consistent strategic messaging
- Write, edit, and publish original content—including blog posts, program updates, campaign descriptions, and event announcements
- Compile and write articles for the organization's email newsletter
- Monitor partner communications and amplify aligned content appropriately
- Manage the look, feel, and functionality of the organization's website and related project sites, recommending improvements as needed
- Oversee social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube
- Write, design, or coordinate production of print materials such as annual reports, quarterly updates, event invitations, and promotional collateral
- Develop multi-media marketing campaigns that elevate the organization's advocacy, education, and fundraising programs
- Create presentations for diverse audiences, including public stakeholders, decision-makers, funders, and community partners
- Collaborate with the Development team to create fundraising and event materials
- Coordinate schedules and workflows related to internal reporting and cross-departmental communications
- Collaborate with Development, Advocacy, and Program staff to ensure aligned messaging and cohesive outreach strategies
- Work flexibly across teams on additional projects as needed in a small nonprofit environment
Volunteer & Community Engagement
- Oversee volunteer databases and mailing lists, ensuring accurate records and streamlined communication
- General volunteer support and engagement
