We are currently in search of a Director of Development for a Women’s Service Organization. The position is hybrid in Washington, D.C. This is a full-time, permanent position.


ORGANIZATION: Women's Service Organization

LOCATION: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid, 3 days/week onsite after onboarding)

POSITION TITLE: Director of Development

SCHEDULE: 40 hours/week

DURATION: Permanent – Direct Hire

SALARY RANGE: $130,000 - $140,000

With major national celebrations planned for America’s 250th anniversary in 2026, the Director of Development will partner with senior leadership to ensure high productivity and quality across the department. This is a newly created role for an organizational leader who will help build the growing development department, including establishing internal Standard Operating Procedures and supervising a team of approximately 8 direct reports. Help lead at a critical time and contribute to a non-political, non-profit organization of over 1 million women members dedicated to service, philanthropy, and community leadership.

 

Our Ideal Candidate:

·       10+ years of fundraising experience, with expertise in individual giving required

·       Experience with departments raising over $6 million annually and with a team of 5-10 Development staff

·       Proven ability to build and supervise a development team, including mentorship and performance evaluations required

·       Highly effective organization, prioritization, multitasking, and follow-up skills, with strong attention to detail required

·       Ability to travel domestically at least 20% of the time required

·       Bachelor’s Degree required


How You Will Spend Your Day:

·       Help execute a comprehensive fundraising plan to continue raising $6-10M annually

·       Cultivate relationships with individual prospects, ensuring high-touch, personalized engagement 

·       Supervise team members, including major and planned giving, grant and campaign writing, and annual fund development department staff  

·       Provide staff with impactful coaching and feedback

·       Monitor department operations; identify issues or opportunities that impact production or quality; recommend strategies for improvement

·       Build standard operating procedures for the development department

·       Track and analyze fundraising performance and provide reports to Executive Leadership
