Careers In Nonprofits is leading in the search for the next Director of Member Engagement for the New York Bankers Association.

 

The is a Full-Time, Hybrid opportunity based in Midtown-Manhattan, NY with a salary range of $90,000 to $115,000.

POSITION TITLE: Director of Member Engagement

LOCATION: Midtown- Manhattan, NY- Hybrid

SALARY RANGE: $90,000-$115,000 (commensurate with experience)



Is This Your Dream Job? The Director of Member Engagement plays a critical role in building and sustaining strong relationships with the member banks of the association, which range in size and scope across the industry. This position is responsible for driving member engagement, retention, and satisfaction by developing and implementing strategies, programs, and services that connect members to the association’s educational, networking, and advocacy resources.


The ideal candidate is highly member-focused, collaborative, and adaptable, with excellent communication skills and a proven ability to anticipate and respond to the evolving needs of a membership-based organization. Experience working within an association environment is strongly preferred, as is the ability to thrive in a small-office setting that requires flexibility, initiative, and a team-oriented mindset.


Familiarity with the banking industry and knowledge of the legislative, regulatory, and policy environment are beneficial, as they enhance the ability to connect members with the association’s broader advocacy mission and industry leadership role.


Our Ideal Candidate:

  •  5+ years of experience in Association or Nonprofit Membership, Community Engagement, or related roles.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills, including experience working with C-suite executives.
  • Event and meeting planning experience.
  • Proficiency with association management systems, and email marketing platforms.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of or interest in public policy, legislative, and regulatory issues relevant to the banking industry- Highly Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree- Communications, Marketing, Business, Nonprofit Management, Public Policy, or related field

 

How You Will Spend Your Day:

Member Relations & Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for most member inquiries and engagement, ensuring responsive, concierge-level service.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all NYBA members to understand their needs, business priorities, and the communities they serve.
  • Partner with the CEO, VP of Communications, and marketing team to ensure clear, consistent, and effective communications with members.
  • Proactively connect members with association resources, programs, and advocacy efforts.

 

Engagement Strategy & Programs

  • Monitor and analyze member engagement metrics, feedback, and trends to inform strategies and measure effectiveness.
  • Design and implement initiatives to strengthen member participation, including peer networks, leadership cultivation, and emerging leader opportunities.
  • Coordinate and manage regular regional CEO meetings and CEO bank visits, handling logistics and ensuring meaningful outcomes.
  • Support the development of engagement strategies that highlight the association’s value in education, networking, and advocacy.


Events & Outreach

  • Collaborate with events, professional development, and communications teams to promote and deliver high-quality member-focused programming.
  • Assist with outreach and recruitment of prospective members, identifying opportunities for growth.
  • Represent the association at industry events and external meetings to build visibility and strengthen relationships.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the overall goals of the department/association.


Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position and reports to the Vice President of Communications. NYBA offers a competitive salary between $90,000-115,000 (commensurate with experience) and generous benefits, including:

Location and Travel

NYBA offers a hybrid work model: on-site/work from home; office located in New York City (Midtown).

 

Some travel required: 3-4 events annually, and meetings in/around New York State
