We are seeking a customer care-focused and detail-oriented Program Assistant for a full-time temporary to permanent role. The primary focus of this position is processing award applications and communicating with and supporting military families.

This is a Hybrid, full-time, temporary-to-permanent role. The candidate has to be located in the DMV area. 


ORGANIZATION: National Service Nonprofit

LOCATION: Hybrid (DMV area) . The Program Assistant has to go into the office 1 or 2 days a week and attend events.

POSITION TITLE: Programs Assistant

SCHEDULE: 40 hours/week

DURATION: Temporary to Permanent

Pay- $24/hr. Salary - $52K- $58K annually, depending on experience.


Is This Your Dream Job? The Program Assistant plays a key role in supporting the mission by serving as a compassionate, detail-oriented point of contact for military families. This individual is responsible for processing program applications, maintaining accurate records, and delivering exceptional customer care across multiple communication channels. Working closely with the Senior Director of Operations and the broader team, the Program Assistant ensures families receive timely, high-quality support while helping to uphold and strengthen the organization’s service-focused operations.


 Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Minimum of two years of experience providing high-quality customer experience in a nonprofit, program, or community-based setting.
  • Military spouses/Veterans are encouraged to apply
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, including the ability to convey information clearly, professionally, and with empathy
  • Ability to manage a high volume of inquiries across multiple channels (phone, email, online database) while keeping good records, tracking outcomes, and completing follow-up tasks
  • Proficient in Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint)
  • Experience with Salesforce required. Experience with Asana is a plus.
  • Proficient in data entry and record maintenance/accuracy.
  • Ability to respect and maintain strict confidentiality


How You Will Spend Your Day:

  •  Processing program applications, ensuring accurate, timely review and communication with military family applicants.
  • Manage the merging of documents related to award disbursements.
  •  Implement service-oriented best practices and contribute to the development of standard operating procedures. 
  • Additional administrative responsibilities
  • Data entry and database management
  • Promote or represent the organization's programs at partner/military events.
