Controller + Lead with Impact + Council Bluffs

Ready to take the reins of a dynamic accounting operation that spans multiple locations and business units? Our client is looking for a seasoned Controller who thrives in fast-paced, multi-entity environments—someone who can lead with confidence, dig into the details, and guide a team toward excellence.

This is more than a month-end close role. It's about owning the accounting function from top to bottom, building strong internal controls, and serving as a financial partner to operations. If you enjoy the challenge of job cost accounting, multistate compliance, and rolling up your sleeves to improve systems and processes—this is your kind of opportunity.

What You’ll Tackle:

  • Deliver timely, accurate financial statements and operational insights
  • Own the general ledger and lead the monthly close process
  • Manage all core accounting functions: A/P, A/R, Payroll, Billing, Purchasing, and Inventory
  • Navigate complex job cost accounting and oversee cash flow strategies
  • Lead and develop an accounting team focused on accuracy, efficiency, and internal support
  • Ensure multistate payroll, sales, and use tax compliance across the Midwest
  • Act as a key point of contact for audits and external tax partners
  • Collaborate closely with HR on employee benefits and self-insured health plans
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase departmental efficiency
  • Guide and coach the team with a hands-on leadership style

What Sets You Apart:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required—Finance degrees will not be considered)
  • Significant experience in accounting leadership, preferably within the construction industry
  • Working knowledge of payroll and tax regulations in multiple Midwest states
  • Proven success managing accounting across multiple locations or profit centers
  • Comfortable with accounting systems, Excel, and reporting tools
  • Strong communicator who can support operations while upholding financial accuracy
  • Positive, team-focused mindset and a natural drive to lead and improve

If you're ready to step into a key leadership role where your accounting expertise drives real operational success, we want to hear from you. Apply today and bring your talents to a company that values accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
