Senior Engineer (Civil or Mechanical) + Market Leader + Expansion Leadership Role 

(Relocation Supported) 

 

Our client, a growing and fully integrated engineering and construction organization, is expanding into new regional markets and seeking a Senior Engineer (Civil PE or Mechanical Engineer) to establish and lead a new office. While South Dakota is the primary target market, other growth regions are under consideration, and the firm is open to relocation for the right leader. 

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants real ownership, influence, and the chance to build an operation from the ground up. 

Unlike traditional consulting firms, this organization brings engineering, surveying, project management, and construction together under one roof. The result is faster delivery, tighter coordination, and true accountability across the full project lifecycle, particularly on complex infrastructure and process-driven projects. 

 

The Opportunity 

This role serves as the local technical, operational, and business leader for a new regional office. You’ll be responsible for project execution, team development, client relationships, and regional growth. The position is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys working across design, construction, and operations, and who thrives in an entrepreneurial, design-build environment. 

 

What You’ll Do 

  • Launch and lead a new regional office, serving as the primary technical authority and local representative 
  • Deliver and oversee infrastructure and process-driven projects, with emphasis on: 
  • Wastewater treatment and conveyance 
  • Utility and underground infrastructure 
  • Civil site development 
  • Process plants and industrial facilities  
  • Lead design-build projects from concept through construction 
  • Perform and review technical designs; provide redlines and stamped reviews (as applicable) 
  • Partner closely with construction and field teams to ensure constructible, cost-effective solutions 
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing local engineering and project management team 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with municipalities, agencies, and private-sector clients 
  • Drive business development, proposals, and regional growth  
  • Navigate local permitting, codes, and design standards 

 

What They’re Looking For 

  • Civil Engineer or Mechanical Engineer, high preference for PE license 
  • 5–7+ years of experience in process plant or industrial facility design 
  • Experience with design-build or integrated engineering/construction delivery 
  • Demonstrated leadership at the project, team, or office level 
  • Ability to balance technical work, project management, and business development 
  • Strong communication skills and an entrepreneurial mindset
