Partner – Estate Planning Attorney

Location: Washington, DC Metro Area

Overview

A leading law firm in the Washington, DC metro area is seeking an accomplished Partner-level Estate Planning Attorney to join its Private Client / Trusts & Estates practice. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned attorney with a portable book of business who is interested in expanding their practice within a collaborative, growth-oriented platform serving high-net-worth individuals, families, and closely held businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families on sophisticated estate planning matters
  • Design and implement complex estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning strategies
  • Draft and oversee advanced estate planning instruments, including irrevocable trusts, grantor trusts, dynasty trusts, charitable planning vehicles, and family governance structures
  • Counsel clients on wealth transfer planning, asset protection, succession planning, and fiduciary matters
  • Coordinate with clients’ financial advisors, accountants, and family offices
  • Supervise and mentor associates and junior attorneys within the practice group
  • Contribute to firm leadership, practice development initiatives, and strategic growth efforts
  • Maintain and grow a portable book of business, with support from firm marketing and cross-selling resources


Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Maryland Bar required; District of Columbia Bar admission a plus
  • 10+ years of experience in trusts and estates / private client work
  • Demonstrated expertise in complex estate and tax planning for high-net-worth clients
  • Portable book of business (size and expectations flexible depending on overall fit and growth potential)
  • Strong client relationship management and business development skills
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication abilities
  • Collaborative mindset with an interest in mentoring and firm leadership
