Our client is a global technology company that provides advanced broadband networking and video delivery solutions to cable operators, telecom providers, and media companies worldwide.
They are best known for their virtualized broadband platforms (like the cOS™ virtual CMTS and DAA systems) that help service providers deploy high-speed internet and next-generation broadband services, simplify network operations, and support future-ready architectures.
Role Overview
The Field Engineer supports on-site installation, testing, troubleshooting, and customer training for Harmonic’s cOS virtual CMTS environments. This is a junior-level technical field role requiring hands-on work in headend environments, DAA systems, fiber/copper cabling, and network equipment setup.
Contract position with travel.
What You Will Be Doing
• Install, test, and troubleshoot DAA systems, IP networks, and headend infrastructure.
• Build, audit, and maintain headend subsystems, including installing and terminating coax, Cat5/Cat6, and fiber cabling.
• Configure and verify headend equipment, perform diagnostics, and ensure proper system operation.
• Use RF and DOCSIS meters for testing, verification, and signal certification.
• Complete accurate documentation, network records, and test reports.
• Provide customer training on system operation, maintenance, and issue identification.
• Serve as an on-site liaison and escalate issues appropriately to Sales, Support, or Engineering.
• Follow safety protocols; ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work variable schedules, including nights when required.
What You Should Have (Expanded Requirements)
• 3–10 years of field technician or junior-level engineering experience in cable, ISP, telecom, data center, or related technical environments.
• Must have mid-level field engineer experience.
• Strong IP networking skills and experience using DOCSIS meters.
• Hands-on experience installing and terminating coax, Cat5/Cat6, and fiber cabling.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools, ladders, and installation/testing equipment.
• Basic to intermediate understanding of IP networking (routers, switches, server setup, IP addressing, VLAN basics).
• Familiarity with DOCSIS, RF testing, fiber verification, or similar technologies.
• Experience performing or supporting system checks, diagnostics, and headend equipment verification.
• Ability to use RF meters, signal meters, and test tools to certify installation quality.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and isolate field issues.
• Clear, customer-friendly communication skills; ability to train users and explain technical concepts.
• Ability to complete documentation, test reports, and maintain accurate network records.
• Ability to lift 30–40 lbs, climb ladders, and work variable schedules, including occasional evenings.
• Willingness to learn, take direction, and grow into higher-level responsibilities.
• Must have a clean driving record and valid car insurance.
