THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is actively searching for an outstanding candidate to step into the pivotal role of Senior Design Technologist. This position is strategically positioned at the intriguing intersection of design and technology. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Senior Design Technologist, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing architectural drawings for permit applications and comprehensive construction documentation including drawings, calculations, schedules, and specifications.
  • Contributing to construction administration activities, including take-offs and shop drawing coordination.
  • Expert design using AutoCAD creating models that encompass seamless integration of architectural, structural, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) systems.
  • Ability to create basic electrical and mechanical drawings, schedules, documentation.
  • Assessing the environmental performance of a building, including energy efficiency, daylighting, and thermal comfort, and thus informing sustainable design decisions.
  • Integrate technology systems within the building, such as smart home features, automation, and security systems.
  • Ensuring quality assurance and quality control of the construction work matches the design specifications and meets industry standards.
  • Staying updated on building codes and regulations, helping to ensure that designs and construction projects are compliant with required codes.
  • Exploring new construction materials, technologies, and construction methods to bring innovation to the design and construction processes.
  • Serving as a mentor, offering guidance and support to junior design technologists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team.
  • Having the vital focus for modernizing and streamlining project workflows, improving collaboration, and ensuring that designs are not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and cost-effective to construct.
  • Acting as a bridge between architects, engineers, contractors, and technology, helping to bring architectural visions to life in a digital and physical form.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

As the Senior Design Technologist, you will bring:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in architectural drawing with experience in multistorey (mid and high rise) buildings.
  • Electrical and/or mechanical drafting experience would be an added bonus.
  • A track record of teaching and mentoring junior design technologists, sharing your knowledge and expertise to nurture emerging talent.
  • A bachelor’s degree in architectural technology, engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant design software.
  • A solid understanding of architectural design principles and construction processes.
  • Knowledge of building systems, codes, and regulations in Saskatchewan.
  • Strong skills in using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for data analysis and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to precision in design.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Hands on construction experience, either professional or hobby, is an asset.
