Senior Mechanical Professional Engineer (P.E.) – Remote (Syracuse, NY Area | Site Visits Required)


Summary

We’re seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Professional Engineer (P.E.) who can step in quickly with little to no training and take ownership of mechanical engineering deliverables from day one. This is a remote role (Must be based in the Syracuse, NY area or relocating there) with regular local travel for site visits in and around the Syracuse, NY region. The ideal candidate is a self-directed engineer who is comfortable interfacing with clients, contractors, and internal teams, and who can independently deliver high-quality design, documentation, and field support.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering efforts for projects with minimal oversight, from concept through construction support.
  • Perform site visits in the Syracuse-area region to evaluate existing conditions, verify field dimensions, and assess constructability.
  • Develop and review mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, reports, and sealed engineering documents as required.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (architectural, structural, electrical, civil) to ensure integrated solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership, identify risks early, and propose practical, code-compliant solutions.
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and change requests; provide timely engineering responses.
  • Support construction administration activities, including field observations and closeout documentation.
  • Communicate clearly with clients and project stakeholders, including presenting findings and recommendations.


Required Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (NY preferred; ability to obtain NY if not currently licensed).
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in commercial, retail, light industrial, hospital, mixed-use, educational etc. projects.
  • Proven ability to execute independently and make sound engineering decisions with limited onboarding.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable codes/standards (e.g., IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA as applicable to the work).
  • Experience producing or reviewing construction documents (drawings, specs, calculations, reports).
  • Strong field experience: comfortable performing site investigations and documenting existing conditions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally for site visits.


Preferred Qualifications

  • NY P.E. license active and in good standing.
  • Experience in HVAC design, plumbing, mechanical equipment selection, and energy/code compliance.
  • Familiarity with common industry tools- AutoCAD, REVIT, TraneTRACE
  • Experience with renovation/retrofit projects and troubleshooting existing building systems.
  • Client-facing consulting experience and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.


Work Location & Travel

  • Remote (work from home)
  • Must be located in or near Syracuse, NY (or willing to be locally available) for site visits as needed
