Senior Bookkeeper (Path to Controller)

A growing commercial lending firm in Brooklyn is seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to join its finance team, with a clear path to step into a Controller-level role. This is a newly created position due to company growth, working closely with and training under the current Controller while taking on increasing ownership of the financial function.

This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who wants to grow into a leadership position and become the primary finance lead for the commercial lending division.

Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
• Track profit and loss at the individual loan/deal level
• Monitor loan lifecycle: origination, funding, servicing, and loan sales
• Record and analyze gain/loss on loan sales
• Track loan performance and bad debt
• Maintain accurate financial records and prepare internal reports
• Perform bank reconciliations and assist with month-end close
• Work closely with the Controller and CFO on financial oversight
• Help improve processes and build scalable accounting systems

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• 3–7 years of hands-on bookkeeping/accounting experience
• Experience in lending, real estate, or financial services preferred
• Strong Excel skills
• Understanding of financial reporting and basic loan accounting
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple workflows
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
