Responsibilities
- Traffic Modeling and Capacity Analysis using one or more of HCS, SYNCHRO, VISSIM, SIDRA, TRANSCAD and TRANSMODELER software for corridor analysis, interchange, and intersection level of service and operational delay calculations and safety analysis.
- Conduct Traffic Impact Analysis, Traffic Signal Warrant Analysis and similar traffic studies and prepare reports with minimal guidance.
- Assist in development of Interchange Justification / Interchange Modification (IJR/IMR) Reports for approval by FHWA.
- Prepare designs and ensure the development and delivery of traffic control plans, signing/pavement markings, and traffic signal plans for various highway and roadway planning and design projects.
- Propose changes to existing highways and bridge sites to improve traffic flow and safety or design traffic systems for new highway projects.
- Prepare traffic engineering studies and designs efficiently and cost-effectively to obtain client acceptance.
- Assist with the design and planning of transportation/traffic systems and facilities for a variety of civil projects and proposes changes to existing roadways or devices to improve traffic flow and safety.
- Assist in preparations of final design documents (Plans, Specifications, and Estimates) associated with traffic signal installations, signing and striping layout, and temporary traffic control/detour/staging plans.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features.
- Collaboratively use judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments.
- Coordinate work with engineers, technicians, and administrative staff.

Qualifications
- Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, AutoTURN, MicroStation, and/or GuideSIGN is desired.
- Knowledgeable in job cost, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts.
- Must possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), organizational skills, attention to detail, be proactive in nature, and have exceptional technology skills.
- Must be able to collaborate with other employees, interact with clients and contractors.
- Adept at problem-solving, including being able to identify issues and resolve programs in a timely manner.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; superb knowledge in engineering principles, methods, and practices.
- Experience using Bentley Software.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office suite, Microsoft Project.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must complete a pre-employment screening
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program (technical experience may be substituted for the degree). Masters degree preferred. Advanced degree may be substituted for work experience.
- 5-9 years of thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering as related to traffic engineering, ITS, and transportation planning for federal, state, and municipal levels. Experience in TX is required. Experience in FL, LA, SC, NC, & GA is desirable.
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) and/or Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification is highly preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Texas is required. Specialty Certification such as PTOE, RSP1 is desirable. Certification or ability to certify for TxDOT work categories of Group 7 is required.
