Mechanical Engineer (E.I.T. or PE Preferred) – Hybrid (Buffalo, NY)


Summary

We’re hiring a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, documentation, and field coordination of mechanical systems for projects in and around Buffalo, NY. This is a hybrid role (mix of in-office/remote) with local site visits as needed. The ideal candidate is hands-on, curious, and organized, able to take direction, learn quickly, and contribute to deliverables in a fast-moving environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical design efforts from concept through construction, under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Perform local site visits to document existing conditions, verify field measurements, and support field coordination.
  • Assist with creating and updating mechanical drawings, calculations, equipment schedules, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders (architects, engineers, clients, contractors) to gather information and resolve issues.
  • Review submittals and RFIs; draft responses and track action items.
  • Support construction administration tasks, including field observation notes and closeout documentation.
  • Maintain organized project files and communicate progress and constraints clearly to the team.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related).
  • 2–6 years of mechanical engineering experience (or equivalent co-op/internship experience for the right fit).
  • Familiarity with building mechanical systems and/or equipment selection (tailor as needed to your work).
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel locally around Rochester for site visits.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • E.I.T. / FE or PE certification (or intent to obtain).
  • Exposure to HVAC/plumbing design, renovations, or existing-building investigations.
  • Experience with tools such as AutoCAD and/or Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft 365.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes/standards (IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA, etc., as applicable).
  • Experience assembling permit/construction document sets.


Work Location & Schedule

  • Hybrid: combination of remote work and time in the office (Buffalo-area)
  • Local travel for site visits and occasional construction meetings
