Field Service Technician – Generator Mechanic

$25-$50 per hour

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide field-based service: perform emergency repairs, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and installations for commercial and industrial generators.
  • Test, measure, and verify the operation of electrical components (AC/DC), transfer switches, and control systems.
  • Conduct startups, diagnostics, and load bank testing for diesel and natural gas gensets.
  • Program and troubleshoot generator controls and synchronizing systems.
  • Build trusted customer relationships through professional, clear communication and top-tier service.
  • Maintain company tools, inventory, and equipment with care and accuracy.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, service logs, and reports.
  • Collaborate with your Supervisor and fellow team members to ensure high-quality service delivery.


What You Bring to the Role

  • 3+ years of hands-on technical service experience in a relevant field: electrician, heavy equipment mechanic, HVAC tech, industrial or marine mechanic, or automotive technician.
  • Background in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • College diploma in Power Generation, or certification as a Licensed Electrician or Certified Mechanic with strong cross-disciplinary skills is preferred.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Proficiency in AC/DC systems, generator control systems, and engine diagnostics.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).


Schedule & Hours

  • Start time: 7:00 AM or 8:00 AM from home.
  • Standard 40 hours/week – overtime and double-time available (weekends at double-time).
  • Peak season can reach up to 60 hours/week.
  • Home daily; travel scheduled well in advance.


Pay & Advancement

  • Technical Assistants: $22–$30/hour.
  • Technicians: $30–$50/hour (depending on skills/experience).
  • Opportunities to advance from TA to Industrial Technician through generator basics training and ongoing skills development.
  • Additional training every 2 years with potential pay increases.
