Job Title: Process Safety and Risk Analysis Engineer Intern
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and analytical Process Safety and Risk Analysis Engineer Intern to support operational safety, hazard identification, and risk reduction initiatives within a chemical, industrial, or manufacturing environment. This internship provides hands-on experience in process safety management, risk assessment methodologies, incident prevention, and environmental health & safety programs.
The intern will work alongside engineering and operations professionals to help improve process reliability, reduce operational risk, and support compliance with industry safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) including:
- HAZOP
- What-If analyses
- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Risk ranking and mitigation reviews
- Support Process Safety Management (PSM) and operational risk programs
- Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis activities
- Help identify and evaluate: Process hazards, Equipment risks, Chemical handling risks, Operational vulnerabilities
- Review: Standard operating procedures (SOPs), Risk assessment documentation, Emergency response procedures, Safety protocols
- Conduct field safety inspections and risk assessments
- Assist with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management and chemical inventory reviews
- Analyze operational and safety data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Support continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in:
- Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Nuclear Engineering
- Environmental Health & Safety
- Environmental Engineering
- Risk Management
- Related technical discipline
- Strong interest in: Process safety, Industrial risk analysis, Hazard mitigation, Manufacturing operations, Safety systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and technical writing abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environments
Preferred Coursework or Experience
Coursework or experience in any of the following is preferred:
- Process safety management
- Risk analysis
- Hazardous materials management
- Environmental compliance
- Process operations
- Chemistry or chemical handling
- Safety engineering principles
