Job Title: Legal Assistant

Location: Iowa City, IA 52240

Salary: $52-62K/year plus AWESOME benefits!!!

Work Environment:  onsite

Term: Permanent / Fulltime

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: Full-time, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Bachelor’s degree required: No

Referral Fee: AMS will pay $500 should the person you refer gets hired

The Legal Assistant provides vital support to attorneys and legal staff in various administrative and clerical tasks. This role involves assisting with legal document preparation, managing client communications, scheduling appointments, and maintaining organized case files. The Legal Assistant must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality in handling sensitive legal matters.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys with legal document preparation, including drafting correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Manage client communications, including answering phone calls, responding to emails, and scheduling appointments.
  • Maintain organized case files, ensuring all relevant documents are accurately filed and easily accessible.
  • Conduct legal research as needed, gathering information and summarizing findings for attorney review.
  • Coordinate meetings, depositions, and court appearances, managing calendars and scheduling logistics.
  • Assist with billing tasks, including preparing invoices, inputting hours, and processing client payments.
  • Provide administrative support to attorneys and legal staff, including photocopying, scanning, and filing documents.
  • Assist with other tasks and projects as assigned by attorneys or management.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in legal studies, paralegal, or office administration preferred.
  • Previous experience as a legal assistant or in a legal support role preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal software applications.
  • Knowledgeable of online court systems and requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive legal information.
