Role - Shift Team Leader

Sector – Energy from Waste

Location – Northwich, Cheshire


Overview:


H9 Talent Solutions are exclusively partnered with FCC Environment and we are looking to hire a Shift Team Leader to work at their new build EfW plant in Northwich to be responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the plant and also lead a team of Operations Technicians, ensuring plant availability, performance, and environmental standards are met


Role and Responsibilities:


  • Ensure the health and safety of your team, contractors and visitors to site
  • Lead day-to-day shift operations ensuring compliance with Environmental Permit conditions
  • You will be a ‘Senior Authorised Person’ under the safety rules carrying out isolations on LV and HV electrical systems and plant items, issuing permits and carrying out permit audits
  • Maximise plant reliability and availability through proactive monitoring and intervention
  • Supervise all operational activities, including emergency management and HV switching
  • Oversee safe systems of work and coordinate planned/unplanned maintenance
  • Provide first-line fault diagnosis, performance monitoring, and technical support
  • Liaise with external partners, including Scottish Power and waste contractors
  • Log shift activities, write incident reports, and conduct operational audits
  • Mentor and develop team members, supporting ongoing learning and team growth
  • Support outage planning and project implementation


Experience:


  • Proven leadership experience in a high-risk operational environment
  • A strong safety-first mindset, capable of enforcing and modelling best practices
  • Effective communicator able to influence across all levels of the organisation
  • Ability to manage plant emergencies calmly and efficiently
  • Comfortable working with rotating machinery, turbines, and control systems
  • Experience with HV switching, safety rules, and safe systems of work
  • Technically competent and confident reading P&IDs and system schematics
  • Able to motivate, coach and develop a high-performing team
  • Flexible and proactive with a hands-on, solution-focused approach
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and able to deliver results under pressure



Qualifications:


  • ONC, NVQ Level 3, or City & Guilds in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in power plant operations, including control room supervision
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification (or working towards)
  • Strong knowledge of HSE and Environmental legislation
  • Experience working with IPPC permits, HV systems, and rotating equipment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, ERP/CMMS systems (e.g. Nisoft, Gladis)
  • Satisfactory completion of Competency Management System modules
