We are looking for a seasoned Director of Project Controls to oversee the planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and risk management of our growing portfolio.
Position Summary:
The Director of Project Controls is responsible for establishing and leading project controls strategies, systems, and processes for all EPC projects. This role will ensure consistent cost and schedule performance tracking, forecasting, and reporting across all active and upcoming renewable energy projects. The position requires strong leadership, technical expertise in project controls, and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, procurement, construction, and finance teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Controls Leadership:
- Develop and implement company-wide project controls procedures, standards, and tools tailored for renewable energy EPC projects.
- Cost Control:
- Oversee project budgeting, cost tracking, variance analysis, and forecasting. Collaborate with project managers and finance to ensure accurate financial reporting and cost management.
- Scheduling & Planning:
- Lead project scheduling efforts using Primavera P6 or equivalent tools. Develop and maintain integrated master schedules, monitor progress, identify schedule risks, and ensure mitigation strategies are in place.
- Risk & Change Management:
- Implement formal risk assessment and change control procedures. Monitor potential project risks and evaluate cost/schedule impacts of changes.
- Performance Reporting:
- Develop KPIs and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders. Provide regular updates to executive leadership on project health, trends, and recommended actions.
- Team Development:
- Build, lead, and mentor a team of project controls professionals including schedulers, cost analysts, and document controllers.
- Systems Integration:
- Drive the integration of project controls with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and other project management software.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with construction, engineering, procurement, and finance to align project controls with execution strategies and timelines.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in project controls within the EPC industry, with at least 5 years in renewables (solar, wind, or battery storage).
- Strong proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and project management tools.
- Expertise in earned value management, forecasting, and cost/schedule integration.
- Strong understanding of construction and EPC contract structures (EPC lump sum, T&M, etc.).
- Proven experience leading project controls teams on large-scale capital projects ($50M+).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred:
- PMP, CCP, or AACE certifications.
- Master’s degree in business, engineering, or project management.
- Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).
- Familiarity with renewable energy regulations, permitting, and interconnection processes.
Working Conditions:
- Based in Houston, TX, with hybrid working flexibility.
