Location: Roanoke, VA

Salary/Pay Rate: $30.47 - $45.71/hour.

Schedule: Day/Evening/Night shifts, Mostly Day/Evening with weekend rotation, Full-Time Onsite

Job Description:

As a Registered Nurse on the Cardiac Vascular Surgical Step-Down Unit, you will assume primary accountability for the individualized nursing coordination and provision of intermediate care for patients recovering from complex cardiac and vascular surgeries. This specialized step-down role requires advanced critical thinking skills to monitor post-operative recovery and identify subtle changes in patient status. You will perform age-specific admission and ongoing clinical assessments, collaborate with the entire interdisciplinary team (surgeons, cardiologists, therapists) to develop and revise patient-centered, interdisciplinary care plans, and ensure optimum patient outcomes. You will accurately administer and document specialized treatments and medications utilizing electronic medical records (EPIC) while consistently delivering the best in care, customer service, and demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in every encounter.


Required Skills:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia, or eligibility to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing of an accredited college or an approved program.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EPIC) systems.
  • Ability to obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Successful completion of facility orientation and competency requirements.


Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Telemetry, or Surgical Step-Down unit.
  • Specialized nursing experience caring for post-operative Cardiac and Vascular surgical patients (e.g., CABG, valve replacement, peripheral bypass).
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (or ability to obtain, as needed).
  • Demonstrated excellence in delegation and critical thinking skills within a team-oriented care model.
