 A growing mission-driven nonprofit is seeking a highly organized, adaptable Operations & Development Associate to provide critical administrative and development support during a particularly busy period of growth. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter who enjoys wearing multiple hats, learning new systems, and bringing structure to a fast-paced environment. This is a part-time, hybrid, temporary role based in Columbia, MD.


ORGANIZATION: Medical Nonprofit

LOCATION: Columbia, MD

POSITION TITLE: Operations and Development Associate

SCHEDULE: Hybrid 3-4 days a week. Potential to grow to 40 hours.

DURATION: 3 months. High chance of becoming Permanent.

HOURLY RATE: $20/hr - $25/hr DOE


Is This Your Dream Job? The Operations & Development Associate will support day-to-day office operations, inbox and data management, donor acknowledgments, mail processing, and other administrative needs. 


 Our Ideal Candidate:


  • Bachelor's degree preferred, particularly given the organization's complex, mission-focused work and frequent interaction with medical and scientific subject matter experts.
  • 1+ years of experience in an administrative, operations, development, nonprofit, or related role.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong computer and systems skills, with the ability to quickly learn new software and processes.
  • Experience with spreadsheets, data entry, database maintenance, or CRM systems.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and shifting responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to commute easily to Columbia, MD at least two days per week, with increased in-office availability required during the September 21–October 2 conference period.



How You Will Spend Your Day:

  • Monitor, organize, and clean up the organization's general email inbox, including addressing a significant backlog.
  • Respond to routine inquiries and route messages to the appropriate staff member.
  • Return phone calls that have been triaged through the organization's answering service.
  • Process incoming mail, determine what requires immediate attention or contains confidential information, and distribute appropriately.
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director and broader team as needed.
  • Assist with donor acknowledgment letters, including preparing, printing, organizing, and mailing correspondence.
  • Maintain and update spreadsheets and databases, including data entry, cleanup, and quality control.
  • Support development back-office activities and other administrative processes.
  • Help keep office systems, files, and records organized and up to date.
  • Work independently to identify administrative needs and take initiative to resolve them.
  • Provide office coverage and ensure essential operations continue smoothly when staff are traveling or attending events.


Conference & Office Coverage

During the organization's annual patient conference, the Associate will be expected to provide independent office coverage, including checking mail and ensuring important communications or materials are handled appropriately.

From September 21–October 2, in-office availability at least three days per week is required.
