Insurance Defense Staff Attorney (Alt-Track)

Our litigation practice is expanding to serve a sophisticated client base, and we are seeking an experienced attorney for a full-time, alternative track position. This role is ideal for legal professionals seeking a predictable work schedule and meaningful contribution to high-impact litigation, without the traditional pressure of partnership-track billable targets. Annual billable expectations are moderate, ranging from 1,700–1,900 hours.
Role & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will provide substantial support to the litigation group, working closely with senior counsel and paralegal staff, especially in the early stages of the role. As proficiency grows, increased autonomy is expected, including the management of cases from inception through resolution. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive legal research and analysis; drafting legal briefs, motions for summary judgment, and trial-related documents.
- Preparing timely responses to discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
- Performing meticulous document review and organization of case files, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
- Collaborating in trial preparation, including support for mock trials, witness preparation, and cross-examination.
- Investigating and evaluating opposing arguments to ensure a robust defense for firm clients.
- Developing effective oral advocacy skills and delivering exceptional client service.
- Maintaining a high degree of organization and meeting deadlines for multiple, concurrent matters.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school and active, good standing membership with the State Bar of Texas.
- Academic excellence, as demonstrated by moot court participation, law journal involvement, leadership roles, or completion of a federal clerkship.
- 3–5 years of litigation experience, with significant second-chair or first-chair trial exposure preferred.
- Previous experience in civil defense litigation strongly preferred (personal injury, professional liability, premises liability, insurance defense, or related areas).
- Compassion and commitment to client advocacy.

- Demonstrated proficiency in litigation, particularly with insurance defense matters on behalf of carriers, corporate clients, or similar entities.
- Outstanding oral advocacy and written communication skills, with a focus on thorough legal analysis and precise drafting.
- Superior organizational abilities, with experience managing trial preparation, discovery, and deadlines for a demanding caseload.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a collaborative legal team.
- Interest in leveraging innovative technology in legal practice, with training and support provided.
