Position Overview

The ideal candidate is highly organized and is an expert at account reconciliations. This role will have a broad range of responsibilities involving many aspects of the monthly, quarterly and year end close process.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Assists in the compilation and review of monthly/annual consolidated and non-consolidated financial reports
  • Prepares variance analysis and provide relevant commentary on financial results
  • Prepares/reviews monthly reconciliation schedules, working papers and elimination entries
  • Ensures that the company complies with all federal, provincial or municipal filing requirements
  • Conjunction with the controller leads the audit process

 

Forecast and Budget Reporting

  • Prepare, analyze monthly department level expenses and variance reports for multiple entities
  • Produce and or support ad hoc reporting and analysis when required
  • Assist with daily banking requirements and monitor cash flow
  • Support strategic budgeting and forecasting activities

 

General Accounting

  • Lead the month-end full cycle accounting duties ensuring month-end journal entries and account reconciliations are completed and accurate
  • Prepare/review reconciliation schedules and investigate variances
  • Provide training and supervise new and existing staff as needed

 

Health and Safety

  • Ensure that self and others adhere to company health and safety practices and procedures
  • Ensure good housekeeping is kept to perform work safely and efficiently
  • Understand safety policies and protocols
  • Ensure that self and others on site are wearing all required PPE, when required

 

Qualifications:

You are an expert in account reconciliations and have the initiative to problem solve. You will own the accuracy of accounting records and take care of the day-to-day accounting while being driven to support management with real time analysis and quality decision support. A personable and well-organized individual who pays attention to detail. Someone who has a professional manner and is able to interact with employers and vendors daily. Experienced in working in a fast- paced environment and complies with the GAAP accounting regulations. Other important attributes of the future Accounting Manager are:


  • Strong audit and/or M&A experience preferred
  • Public practice experience is an asset
  • Experience with acquisitions and integration is an asset
  • Problem solver and inquisitive, not afraid to ask questions and look for answers
  • Experience using Dynamics Business Central is an asset
  • Experience working in multiple systems for account investigation and reconciliations is an asset
  • Experience with consolidation of multiple entities 
  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and effectively handle changing priorities
  • Proven ability to multi-task, handle high volumes, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and problem solve as well as communicate and follow-up in a professional manner
  • A positive demeanour and team player, who is willing to go the extra mile
