Overview
The Senior Controls Specialist supports plant operations by troubleshooting and optimizing control systems and electrical components. This hands-on role helps drive improvements in automation, reliability, and cost efficiency while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair, and program PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo motors, and control systems
- Perform scheduled, unscheduled, and preventive/predictive maintenance on process control equipment
- Execute electrical repairs including motor wiring, starters, fuses, and troubleshooting
- Develop and maintain specifications, standards, and operational parameters for electrical systems
- Manage control systems projects from scope through vendor oversight, implementation, and startup
- Serve as technical authority for electrical and control engineering matters
- Reduce operational costs through technical analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on priorities, timelines, and budgets
- Stay current on industry trends and recommend updates to systems and practices
- Ensure compliance with all safety, food safety, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of electrical or controls engineering experience in the food or dairy industry
- Hands-on experience with PLCs (ControlLogix), HMIs, VFDs, and motor control systems
- Familiarity with one-line diagrams, schematics, and instrumentation
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Experience managing projects and working with vendors or contractors
Education Requirements
- High school diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered
Preferred Certifications
- Electrical or Controls-related licenses or certifications (may be required during employment)
