Lead Technician / Working Foreman – Fleet (Buses & Vans)

Minneapolis, Minnesota

This isn’t a corporate shop job. We’re a non-profit organization (operating for 15 years) with a true mom-and-pop feel. Safety is our core value. The fleet you’ll be working on isn’t just equipment — it’s how hundreds of people get to work and live their lives every day. What you do here matters.

Our long-time Lead Mechanic is retiring, and we’re looking for the right person to step in and take the reins.

There’s no shop manager above you. You report straight to executive leadership. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants ownership, not just a title.

What You’ll Be Walking Into

  • Fleet of gas-powered E-350 & E-450 buses and vans (with passenger lifts)
  • Mix of PMs, brakes, suspension, front-end work, electrical, A/C, lift systems, and general repairs
  • Staff of 4 technicians

You’ll be the go-to guy in the shop. The one they come to with the tough diag. The one setting the tone.

What We Need From You

This is a working foreman role. You’ll turn wrenches, but you’ll also:

  • Direct and inspect work from other techs
  • Coach and train younger mechanics
  • Make the call on tough diagnostics
  • Prioritize jobs to keep the fleet road-ready
  • Ensure DOT compliance and safety standards
  • Work with leadership on parts ordering, pricing, billing, and shop decisions
  • Keep paperwork, work orders, and documentation clean

If you’ve ever said, “If I ran this shop, we’d do it better,” this is your shot.

The Right Fit

You’re probably someone who:

  • Has 5+ years in a shop, plus leadership or supervisory experience
  • Knows light- to medium-duty trucks or buses inside and out
  • Is comfortable being accountable for the whole shop
  • Can talk to techs, drivers, vendors, and leadership without drama
  • Solves problems instead of pointing fingers
  • Has your own basic tools

The Schedule

Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm

No nights. No weekends.

Go home and actually see your family.

Pay & Benefits

  • $30–$36 per hour (depends on experience and certifications)
  • Medical, dental, vision
  • Life insurance & long-term disability
  • PTO
  • 403(b) retirement with match
  • Uniforms provided
  • Well-equipped shop
  • $500 sign-on bonus

Why This Role Is Different

You’re not buried under corporate red tape.

You’re not just another body in a bay.

You’ll have real say in how the shop runs.

Real responsibility. Real impact.

If you’re ready to lead from the front and build something solid, we should talk.
